The Monastery Garden

Guided Tours

Guided tours will start again on June 1, 2024! . Every Sunday morning, visit the “secret” garden of the monastery of the Hospitaller Sisters of Saint-Joseph, a true oasis of peace hidden behind an imposing stone enclosure in the heart of the city. Discover the history of the garden, from the nurturing land of 1861 to the pleasure garden we know today. You will also learn about the history of the heritage buildings of the Hôtel-Dieu. One Sunday a month, come and enjoy a unique experience with musical tours of the garden. Carried out in collaboration with Sérénité Sonore, the visits will begin with a concert of songs by Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) performed by Rebecca Bain in the chapel of the Immaculate Conception located in the heart of the garden, which will be followed by a historical visit.

Experience nature right in Montreal’s city center! Make your way to the monastery garden, then on Mount Royal’s east flank and up to the Camilien-Houde belvedere.
