The Musée des Hospitalières has prepared a special program for the temporary exhibition “Our mountain. Memories of Mount Royal” which will end on January 5, 2025.  Discover Mount Royal through a variety of activities that highlight the history of this emblematic place.

Conference “Stage Mount Royal” by Daniel Chartier, landscape architect

Saturday April 20, 2024, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

In the heart of Montreal, a small mountain magnified by a multitude of interventions reflecting the singularities of this exceptional site. The speaker will address the mosaic of mountain landscapes, their genesis and their future. It will emphasize the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted and the exceptional legacy that results from it. The institutional landscapes will be presented more briefly, emphasizing their privileged relationship with this mountain in the heart of our city. Finally, the efforts made over more than three decades to preserve the heritage values ​​of the Mountain will be presented.

Everyone loves the mountains. But what do we really know about its history? This visit goes beyond the known main lines. Denise Caron, historian, invites you to follow the evolution of this territory on site from the first permanent organizations to the present day. By the same token, a place will be made for the actors who played a determining role in this emblematic place.

In the event of bad weather, the visit will be postponed.

Hiking “Exploring the therapeutic value of Mount Royal” with les Amis de la montagne

Saturday May 18, Thursday June 27, Saturday July 13, Saturday September 14, Saturday September 28 and Thursday October 17, 2024

The narrated tour The Legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted: Exploring the Therapeutic Value of Mount Royal will take visitors from the Jardin des Hospitalières to the Camillien-Houde belvedere passing through the eastern side of Mount Royal Park. The circuit will be offered until October, in collaboration with Les Amis de la montagne.

Guided tours Funerary art on Mount Royal

Sunday August 11, 2024

Other tours, guided by Myriam Cloutier, director of heritage programs at Mount Royal Cemetery, and by Steven Lapidus, lecturer at Concordia University in the Canadian Jewish Studies department, will introduce you to the funerary heritage of Mount Royal, including Jewish cemeteries and the Mont-Royal cemetery, opened in 1852 by the Protestant community of Montreal. It has been designated a national historic site of Canada.Its rural layout and natural environment are inspired by that of rural cemeteries erected in France and the United States at the beginning of the 19th century. There are around a hundred species of native and exotic trees as well as 145 species of birds.
